Out of the box

That’s my logo. I know, it’s nothing yogic, no lotus, no mudra, no sacred images, nothing immediate that calls foryoga.

Although aesthetically rather simple and essential, it has a meaning within it.

Let’s start by assuming that we too are animals and our evolutionary peculiarity lies in the brain.

The act of thinking rationally and abstractly, experiencing emotions, interpreting, changing ideas, mood and point of view is the particularity of the human.

The ability to feel and listen to us, gives us character and leads us to be aware of the way and the world in which we live (or at least it should).

Very often however we spoil the brain to follow particular patterns, of which we are not even aware, and in time, we crystallize ourself in fixed logics and find us closed in a box made of beliefs and habits, illusively comfortable, which we interpret as absolute realities.

We thus lose sight of the world around us and the possibilities we have of living it to the fullest, with ourselves and with the other animals that inhabit it.

The key to regaining our free thinking and acting is the awareness of ourselves and the connection with each other; breaking a pattern to be able to observe not only the details, but the painting in all its form.

Yoga is a tool for this understanding, for a conversion with oneself.

Vertical thinking in the brain is logical, consequential, which focuses on a direct solution to a problem, trying to face the situation from a single point of view.

Lateral thinking, on the other hand, is that of a more intuitive and abstract nature; it sets in motion in the resolution of a problem through an indirect approach, observing it from different angles and breaking up convictions and discounted logics; we leave the well-beaten path of logic, abandoning our comforts by exploring paths and worlds of which we previously ignored existence.

These 9 points are an enigma to stimulate lateral thinking coming out of habitual thinking.

Draw 4 segments so that you can touch all the points without ever lifting the pen.

.

Why morning?
I teach and, what is not obvious these days, I practice yoga daily.
Of course I have a favorite moment, as well as a more suitable one, where I dedicate myself the necessary time: early in the morning.
Early, before the chaos of the cities begins, before the work begins and before the flow of thoughts starts uninterrupted.
In favor of this schedule you can. find general reasons written in any manual; at the right time, before dawn, there are no distractions, the body (not the muscles, the Body) works best, more focus and gain all the benefits from the practice.
.
To this, I add my point of view that draw the characters of what I do and what I try to share.
First of all, I like morning.
I’ve always been a morning guy, since I was a child and on Sunday, poor my mother, I used to wake up at 5.
In the evening I feel the need of home, early dinner, read, spend time with the people I love and go to sleep, early.
.
Second, I don’t have a Shala (a school), but I use a space and therefore I don’t have to fill in a schedule to pay the costs, but I work the necessary to live, giving myself the greatest luxury you can afford, personal time.
I realized, in short time, that I still want to use as much energy as possible to practice, study and teach and not yet do business.
.
Last but most important point for me.
I believe in yoga as a bearer of skills that do not need time to be learned, but instead pure willpower: self-discipline, listening and action.
If you’re waking up at 5:00, you’re taking the time to listen and work on yourself, even when you have to swim against the current of fatigue and unexpected events that sometimes seem to slow down your days, then you’re putting your heart and mind into what you are doing, getting results even before the operation.
.
This is what I try to share, how I was taught and what I still live it today,
a position statement.

Lezione

Every time I go to Japan I should teach and transmit what I daily cultivate, and, as always, when I am in there, it is more what I receive than what I give.

I could describe the incredible perseverance of the Japanese practitioners, but it would be a waste of time and would be accompanied by an “Ehi, but they are like that since childhood!”, as determination does not cost effort to everybody.

Instead, I will tell you this little anecdote of everyday life.

My apartment was in the center, next to the biggest food market in Osaka, in one of those little streets that, despite being immersed in chaos, remain deep in tranquility.

Every day I left home and had to walk through the central street of the market, populated by tourists and natives, who were getting stucked through the banks like a morning at the post office.

The path was short, so short that I never noticed how much I could spend walking.

4/5 minutes? Less than 10 anyway.

Of all the frenetic figures of passage, one was daily present on that same journey.

A man, Japanese, at an advanced age and hunched over a walking stick, proceeded one step after another at a speed of one meter per minute.

Once, surely, he was capable of running and jumping, but old age have slowed him down so much that, some days, I was going for shopping and, on my way back, he moved only a few yards ahead.

It took him 45 minutes to complete that path that I didn’t even think about.

Everyday.

That alone was enough to make me feel enormously respectful for such tenacity.

That evening I still had to buy dinner and, going down the stairs, I could hear the wall of rain that, coming down, was pouring down on the ground flooding the street.

Even with an umbrella and kway, I was resigned to the idea of not saving even a centimeter dry in that short journey.

I started walking and he was halfway there; my slow and stooped friend.

Wet from head to toe, with one hand on the stick and the other grasped a bag, getting small steps one after the other, without the slightest possibility of repair himself.

Straight on his way.

Without talkin, i held him the umbrella for 20 minutes, honored and intimidate at the same time.

Arriving in a covered place, he told me the word you will hear the most “arigatogosaymasu”, thank you.

The difference is in the attitude.

Wax-on wax-off

I don’t remember exactly when and who, but once they told me that meditating is like sitting and looking out of a window. You sit there, comfortable and from your window you observe what’s happening, somehow like in those little villages outside the city, where time seems to have not arrived yet.

You watch the cars go by, people walk, trees, wind, heat, light; you become a witness to something that flows, immaterial, but that somewhere inside, you perceive.

In short, you keep watching at what you have in front of you, if there was a front. However, since reality is an object in constant transformation, it can happen that the window from which we look at becomes clouded, it can happen that the glass gets dirty, gets wet or breaks.

An infinite number of things can happen and all with the same result: we lose lucidity in the contact with reality.

We no longer see what’s happening outside the window, but we rather get stuck in the middle: the glass is dirty and I can’t see! It’s the dirt! Who was to dirty it ?! Fuck the glass, if it didn’t exist it would be much better!

Now, we can get stuck there, for long or short time, or we can give a sponge and start over, because basically we’re not what’s behind or in front, we are the glass.
